Happy Campers

If you are interested in the world of search and social media on the internet then search camp might be just what you are searching for. Our counselors have wide and varied expertise and experience in seo, sem, ppc, research, analysis the whole box and dice. And we are really nice. Here is what one of our happy campers has to say about her search camp experience.

AnD’s WEBSITE JOURNEY: by Kate Ramsay, AnD Consulting

I took pride in the good marks I would mostly get at school and hated it when a piece of work came back marked a B which meant it had been rated in the 70s out of 100.  Imagine my horror, then, when my website was given a 3 out of 100 score not long ago!  Let me explain.

Greg Cromwell of Bush Branding and Marketing invited me to attend a search camp late last year.  I’m always keen to try out new things and, given Greg led me to believe the day would give me some tips about how I might improve my website, what he called ‘search engine optimization’, I went along.

We search campers were asked to bring our laptops along and early on in the day each of our websites was assessed by a piece of software from hubspot.  We were told our website would be ranked according to how well it could be found in search engines.  I think we were all enjoying a coffee made with a Presso when Andrew, the technical guy of the team leading the search camp, chuckled and said, “I haven’t ever seen a score this low.  The AnD website has been rated 3 out of 100.”

I blushed, swallowed hard and then did my best to laugh along with the group while inwardly feeling like a complete idiot and yet defensive too.  I was proud of my website – I’d carefully crafted every word of it myself and here it was being given a 3 out of 100 score!  What did some stupid piece of software know anyway!

In spite of this inner turmoil I did my best to concentrate on all that was covered throughout the day and, although I didn’t fully grasp the technical stuff, I ended the day knowing that it was time for change if I wanted my website to become more relevant in cyber space land.  Greg and I agreed to meet one on one soon after and so began a journey, the culmination of which was the launch of my new website at the end of July this year (see andconsulting.org).

Nighean, the creative director at Bush, designed a new look, Andrew did the technical work to build on its search engine optimization and set up a blog and Greg taught me how to use the software Contribute and Wordpress so I could cull my carefully crafted words.

I now love my new website and the good news is that that ‘stupid’ piece of software is now giving me a rank of 70 out of 100.

Thank you Search Camp Team for bringing me and my website into this millennium!
